Will Current Trends Become Timeless Staple Pieces?

Honestly, I have mixed opinions on the most popular fashion trends of the year so far. Some of them I understand but don’t like, and some of them I don’t understand but do like.

We will start with the bubble skirt. Why are we bringing back trashy trends from the 80s? We could use so many gorgeous 80s pieces for fashion inspiration and we are bringing back the bad ones? I understand the hype about the bubble skirt – it’s very different to the ‘normal’ fashion choices of young girls and gives your outfit a unique kind of volume which is unusual to see in current clothing trends. And I will agree, it was gorgeous in the '80s when it was styled with other ’80s pieces but now? I think unless it's paired with the correct style choices, it looks really trashy and kind of like pyjamas.

Leopard Print is always going to be in style. Do I think it will always be the trendiest thing to wear? No. For example, when this leopard print hype dies down, we will start seeing less and less leopard print. It will still be around, but not as much, and will still be in fashion, but it will just not be the latest fashion craze. Do I think some girls will regret spending money on certain leopard print items just because they are trending? 100% yes. Most girls will regret rebranding their room to Leather Print Central and will never use their leopard print duvets, curtains, towels, carpets etc again.

I have recently been seeing an uproar against Urban Outfitters for distributing a top that is very 2019-coded. The top in question is a plain off the shoulders top with built-in bralette straps – making it look like you are wearing a basic top with a Hollister ‘Gilly Hicks’ bralette underneath - the epitome of 2019 fashion. Why is there such an uproar about Urban selling this top? Girls like me who are old enough to remember or be a part of the 2019 Hollister bralette phase will never buy this top and are confused as to why Urban is selling tops like these when Urban consumers already own the original Hollister bralette and don’t need to buy a top with a fake built in one. But what we don’t realise is that pre-covid fashion for 2010’s babies is their equivalent to our y2k-2000’s fashion obsession. I assume you wondered why Urban’s clothes were going downhill. Well, they aren’t, they just aren’t targeted for our age group anymore.

So, will any of these items become future outfit staples? God no. Outfit staples are items of clothing that are timeless and will never go out of style. For example, a plain black skirt, jeans, a black blazer, a pair of knee-high boots – basically a staple is an item of clothing that can go with anything and can be styled in many different ways creating a unique outfit each time you wear it.
