November 22nd, 2024 – what a day to remember! It marked the release of ‘Wicked’, the film adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s beloved novel, directed by Jon M. Chu. The story dives deep into the origins of Elphaba, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. It reveals their complex backstory, from their unlikely friendship at Shiz University to their first encounters with the Wizard of Oz.

Elphaba is depicted as compassionate, determined, and misunderstood, while Glinda is charming, elegant, and eternally optimistic—a dynamic that makes their journey captivating.

The film’s debut sparked a frenzy, not only among theatre enthusiasts but also Ariana Grande fans, as the pop icon brought Glinda to life on the big screen. Ariana added a special touch to the film’s credits by using her full name, “Ariana Grande-Butera,” as a heartfelt nod to her father, a gesture she shared with ‘Entertainment Tonight’. This personal connection deepened her already stellar performance and silenced any doubts about her casting. She truly sounded like an angel.

And then there’s the merch! From Elphaba and Glinda mugs to ‘Wicked’ - themed cupcake mixes, Stanley cups, pajamas, and beyond, ‘Wicked’ fever is everywhere.

Personally, the film has been a revelation. Not only has the soundtrack taken over my life (seriously, it’s all I’ve been listening to), but I’m absolutely head over heels for Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. The set design is breathtaking, the costumes are an impeccable reflection of each character, and the entire production feels like a cinematic masterpiece.

It seems everyone I know caught the film on release day, and I have yet to hear a single bad review. ‘Wicked’ has truly cast its spell on us all. And all I can say is,

Pink really does go well with green…
