Theworld.vote.com is a website that allows residents of countries all over the world to cast their vote in elections to hypothetically see how the results would change if the election was worldwide. As of 23:30 on Thursday November 7th, 92% had voted for Kamala Harris, while only 8% had voted for Donald J. Trump.
According to Google, President Trump won the election with over 72 million votes, while Vice President Harris received over 68 million. But why is the rest of the world’s statistic so different than the majority of the United States?
Trump and Harris' policies are favorable by millions but very different.
Harris stated that her day-one priority would be to try reduce food and housing costs for working families. When Trump was asked on the matter, he promised to“end inflation and make America affordable again” by drilling for more oil, lowering energy costs.
Trump has also stated that he wouldn't sign a federal abortion ban and that States should decide their own policies, but that won't stop the possibility of him signing the ban when he's back in office. Meanwhile, Harris has made abortion rights central to her campaign, promising to protect reproductive rights nationwide and continue to advocate for the rights after the election.
How will Trump’s presidential return affect citizens of other countries?
Trump has been very vocal on his criticism of NATO. He believes that some NATO allies aren't paying enough into NATO, while the US provides the largest portion of the defense spending. He has suggested that he would 'encourage' Russia to 'do whatever the hell they want' to NATO allies that aren't paying to Trumps standards. This has lead to NATO's allies and fellow countries to question whether Trump will allow the US to stay in NATO, or even defend a NATO ally in the event of an attack.
Trump's opinion on abortion will also affect other countries. Trump has won the election with one of his main priorities being to let States decide whether abortions should be banned or not. This will spark conversation between other countries leaders to discuss whether or not they should follow suit. It will also encourage other people around the world with similar political thoughts as Trump to become politicians.
